Litokol X-Fix is a cement-based tile adhesive in powder form for bonding ceramic tiles to cementitious substrates, on floors and walls. It has an extra creamy texture, does not slip on a wall, and gives you more than thirty minutes to correct a tile.
Product & application
X-Fix falls into class C1TE according to EN 12004 and ISO 13007: a cement-based adhesive with extended open time and reduced slip. For heavier requirements - underfloor heating, large format slabs or a moving substrate - X-Gel S1 in class C2TE S1 is the heavier neighbour.
The entry-level class of the range, and precisely enough for what most jobs require. Creamy on the trowel, stable on the wall, and with half an hour of correction time, you don't have to lay in a hurry.

Observe the limit: do not use on wood or wood-based panels, and not on metal, rubber, PVC or linoleum. On plaster and anhydrite only after priming with X-Prime. Not on insufficiently cured concrete, not on reactive waterproofing membranes of type RM according to EN 14891, and not where the floor needs to be trafficable quickly.
Substrate & compatibility
According to UNI 11493-1, the substrate must be mechanically sound and free of loose parts, grease, oil, paint, wax and rising damp.
- Cement screeds: cure for at least 28 days
- Cement-based plaster: at least one week per centimetre thickness
- Concrete, provided sufficiently cured
- Levelling layers and self-levelling layers
- Plasterboard, plaster and anhydrite — only after priming with X-Prime
- Dusty or absorbent substrates first treat with X-Prime
- Smooth, dense substrates such as old tiles: first clean and then apply a bonding bridge
If you are unsure whether a specific substrate is suitable, first make a test piece. The number of types of substrates and tiles is too large to exclude everything in advance.
Processing
First, put the water in a clean bucket and slowly add the powder while mixing until a smooth, lump-free mass is formed. Let the mixture rest for 5 minutes and then mix again for a few more seconds.
- White version: 28 to 31% water, approximately 5.6 to 6.2 litres per 20 kg bag
- Process between +5 °C and +35 °C
- Processing time approximately 6 hours in the bucket
- More than 30 minutes to correct a tile
- Grout after 6 to 8 hours on the wall, after 24 hours on the floor
First apply a thin layer with the smooth side of the trowel and immediately comb it up with the notched side, using a notch size suitable for the tile format. Do not add any more water once bonding has begun. Protect the work for at least 24 hours against heavy rain, and ensure a fully filled adhesive bed outdoors.
